The Bed Saga

So the bed finally came...3 huge boxes, nothing pre-assembled, just boards and screws and ridiculously cryptic instructions. Poor UPS guy earned his supper carrying it all up the three flights of stairs in the hot afternoon sun. It was made in Denmark and I guess they figured they'd make the instruction manual as multi-lingual friendly as possible by using no words, just numbers and fuzzy diagrams. Needless to say, it was a bit of a struggle to even figure out what I was looking at. And after lugging the 125+ pound mass of wood into my room, I started trying to decipher the instructions at around 3pm.

I worked nonstop on this thing, through many frustrations-- it was probably one of the most challenging things I've done in a long time, not only because it was totally unclear what to do but because it was heaaaavy and trying to screw in one side of the upper frame while balancing the other side and trying not to scratch the walls or let everything crash to the ground and anger the downstairs neighbors...was quite a task. They haven't kicked me out of the complex yet.

Plus after finally completing the construction of the bed, I was faced with trying to get the mattress onto it- not exactly a one woman job. But, I did it! And at about 8:30 last night the bed was complete and I was more than ready for some dinner. Ain't it purty?

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about having this new bed or having to build it myself...it was just quite the challenging experience, especially for a little girl like me! Then again, this move is full of challenging experiences and this was just one of the first. I'm hoping it'll make me stronger. Couldn't hurt eh? My muscles are pretty sore, haha.

I also wanted to show my adorable, free (or ground score, as the rents call it), found-in-an-alley side table! Mom happened upon it on a walk through Boulder one afternoon and, though one leg had fallen off and it was missing a stabilizing crossbar, she recognized its awesomeness and so we went back later to claim it. Dad glued the leg back in place, and we brought home a perfect pine stick from our hike in Chatauqua to use for the missing crossbar. After some crafty work from Dad, the table looks good as new and absolutely perfect for my new place : )That's all for now, thanks for all the comments! I miss you guys a lot and hope this summer's end is treating you all well. Keep in touch!

Congratulations! You remind me of Christy and all her assembling projects! What a bear to do by yourself, with or without clear instructions!
Your bedroom looks great--I love the comforter, etc.
And your table find was great and will be a piece you'll keep forever, if only because of the "precious memories."
Is tomorrow your first day of work? Your dad told me you had taken a dry-run bike ride and found it was just 10 minutes away. I LOVE that! It's a nice mental picture, seeing you enjoying your new place!
Keep the posts coming! We like to feel we're a part of all this!
Love you! Aunt Roby
